After a tough bargaining round, Slovak unions have secured a collective agreement providing a 6% pay rise in the public sector for 2017. The agreement covers 350,000 workers and foresees an additional 6% increase in 2018 if the economic situation remains positive.
“We are strongly committed to the pay rise campaign. This is now mainstream also in the national politics,” said KOZ President Josef Kollár. “However, we are not yet done. Negotiations for increasing the minimum wage by 13% are ongoing and sector collective bargaining is improving. Workers have recognised that being member of a trade union pays off. Unionised workers generally get a 20% higher wage. We will go on with our struggle to reach out to as many workers as possible.”
