The ETUC’s Dutch affiliate FNV has set up a new website page to highlight the campaign for higher wages.
As Europe recovers from the crisis, companies and shareholders are benefitting from increasing economic growth and productivity. However, European workers’ wages have barely moved, points out the FNV. Higher wages are important for strengthening economic recovery through greater purchasing power and internal demand within the EU.
Europe needs a pay rise to combat poverty and income inequality in the EU and the exploitation of the most vulnerable employees.
The ETUC’s ‘Europe needs a pay rise’ campaign is being carried out in close cooperation with national union organisations in European countries, including the FNV. The campaign will run until mid-2018.
Wage increase for the Netherlands
The FNV is approaching the new negotiating round with a claim for a minimum increase of 3.5%, with up to 5% for low earners, or at least €1,000 a year.
According to the FNV, it is important that everyone benefits from economic growth. The minimum increase of €1,000 would benefit low-paid employees and help to combat pay inequalities.
